Cost Savings Model

The cost savings model is an interactive tool that demonstrates the financial impact of members/patients having unencumbered access to optometrists.

Input population size. Both the employee population and the family/employee ratio are input based on the specifics of your organization.
For the purposes of this exercise, we choose an employee population of 10,000 and a family/employee ratio of 2.

Benchmark Data. Employee population parameters are selected in order to determine the unique savings that can be driven by a particular population of covered employees and dependents.

Current population parameters include:

  1. Plan type (commercial, Medicaid, Medicare, etc.)
  2. Age/Gender distribution
  3. Geographic locations

For the purposes of this exercise, we choose the setting “All” for plan type, age/gender, and geographic location.

Savings Report. Based on the selections from the input population and benchmark setting, a savings of $0.19 PMPM and a total savings of $45,864 can be achieved by diverting eye care from the ER setting to eye care professionals in their office setting as well as through costs saved by correct diagnoses and correct prescriptions.
